-ABOUT-
Allan "Right Turn" Morales

By way of Tampa, FL, Allan moved to Nashville, TN in 2013 to begin a new career with a start-up company as a commissioning engineer for Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). With his spare time, he joined local hiking groups where he was able to briefly connect with nature, (though he no longer had to cautiously watch the lake edges for alligators).

With these group hikes over foothills not far from downtown Nashville, (and once he got in better shape), he was able to converse with fellow hikers and learn more about hiking longer trips within the beautiful state of Tennessee including the Appalachian Trail (AT). In 2016, he began section hiking the AT annually with a college buddy starting at Springer Mountain, GA heading northbound. During the 2017 hike on the AT, he received his Trail name, Right Turn.  As they say, the Trail will provide!

By 2020, he was able to request six weeks off from work so that he could solo hike as much of the AT as possible that summer. After hiking over 315 miles from Hot Springs, NC to Bland, VA, he had one heck of a story to share. So much so, he dedicated the next two years writing about his story, the hostels and towns he visited, the people he came across, and the beauty of the Trail, in order to help motivate people to overcome their fear of the unknown and have their chance at a once-in-a lifetime adventure. A few thousand people take on the journey of hiking all 2,200 miles of the AT in one year, but if you're not ready to quit your job and make drastic life changes, check this book out to see what it takes to manage a few weeks out and LASH (Long Ass Section Hike) the Appalachian Trail! Happy Hiking!
